3 Take your exam
Ahead of the exam day, we will confirm the time, location, and full details of your GCSE maths exams and exam centre, so you are fully prepared of what to expect. You should make sure that you understand the rules of your exam before your exam day to ensure everything goes as smooth as possible. You will then need to make your way to the exam centre on the exam dates, to take your exam in person alongside the rest of the country.

4 Receive your results
GCSE results day takes place on a fixed date each year, usually the third Thursday in August, when results are released nationally across all subjects and exam boards.
As you’re a GCSE Maths private candidate, your results will usually be issued directly by your exam centre on this day. It’s important to check how your centre delivers results - some require collection in person, while others provide them by email or post.

Yes, you can resit maths GCSE exams if you did not achieve the grade you need. Many higher education qualifications and certain job qualifications require a grade 4, or C, in their maths GCSE exam, so you may have to retake maths GCSE to gain access to these courses. When can I sit a GCSE maths exam?
You can take a GCSE maths exam in May or November of each year. School age students typically take their GCSE maths resit in the maths November resit period. See the tables below for key GCSE maths exam dates. You can take your private candidate maths GCSE with Pass GCSE.
Since there are only 2 exam periods per year, it means you have lots of time to revise. The Pass GCSE exam + course option would be your best option to help you prepare for your exam. Sitting maths GCSE privately can be a great option for those retaking the qualification and for GCSE maths external candidates.
Can I take a GCSE maths exam online?
You cannot take a GCSE maths exam online, this must be done at a private GCSE maths exam centre. You can however take a GCSE equivalency exam or functional skills level 2 exam online, which are both excellent alternatives to a full GCSE maths exam.

Is there a maths GCSE resit for adults?
Retaking maths GCSE for adults is not uncommon. You can retake maths GCSE exams at any age, from school students to adults. The GCSE exam booking through Pass GCSE is the same for learners of any age. Retaking maths GCSE for adults is a great way to learn new skills or qualify for certain jobs, apprenticeships, or further education.
What exam boards do you offer GCSE maths exams for?
We offer Edexcel, AQA, OCR, WJEC and iGCSE as exam board options for your GCSE maths private exam. You can retake maths GCSE exam with any of these exam boards, and we’ll register you as a GCSE maths exam private candidate.
What is the pass mark for the exam?
This varies each year as the grade boundaries are standardised. This means the grade boundaries are set based on how hard the exam was.
If you are sitting the foundation exam, then the mark you need to achieve for a grade 4 tends to be around 50-65%. But this is not always the case.
For higher tier exams, the mark needed for a pass is much lower as the paper is harder. For a grade 4 you will typically need to achieve 20-25% but it is important to note the difference in the difficulty between foundation and higher maths.
