How does the GCSE Physics exam process work?

If you’re looking for more information about booking a GCSE Physics resit exam, or you’re not sure where to begin, Pass GCSE makes the process straightforward. GCSE Physics resit exams take place in the summer and November each year, and you’ll sit your exam at a local exam centre near you. The exam is available to external candidates aged 16 and over, and Pass GCSE will manage all of the arrangements for you.

3 Sit your exam

Before your exam, we’ll share full information about your GCSE Physics exam, including the exam time, location, and what you need to bring on the day, so you can prepare with confidence. We recommend reading through the exam regulations in advance to help avoid any issues on the day. You’ll take the exam in person at your assigned exam centre, alongside other candidates across the UK.

4 Receive your results

GCSE results are released once a year on a national results day, which usually falls on the third Thursday in August. On this date, grades are issued across all subjects and exam boards.

As you’ll be sitting GCSE Physics as a private candidate, your results will generally be provided directly by your exam centre on this day. It’s important to check in advance how your centre shares results, as some require collection in person, while others send them by email or post.

How long will it take for me to get my results?

You will receive your results towards the end of August.

Is this the same qualification that is sat in schools?

Yes, this will get you a GCSE qualification, as you would get in school. You may find the only difference is the exam board. Schools tend to use AQA or Edexcel, where as our exam is with Edexcel IGCSE. We use this exam board as they do not require you to complete any practical components to achieve the qualification, like other exam boards do.

Can I sit a GCSE if I have never sat one before?

Yes, you can take a GCSE if you have never sat one before, or if you are resitting.

Can I resit my Physics GCSE as a private candidate?

Yes, you can retake you physics GCSE privately with Pass GCSE. We will book you in with a local exam centre as a private candidate. We will arrange everything for your exam booking so you don’t have to.

What is a Fast-Track GCSE Physics qualification?

A fast-track GCSE Physics qualification with Pass GCSE enables you to revise for and sit your GCSE Physics exam in a shorter period than studying at school or college. Many learners complete their qualification in under 12 months, with some finishing in as little as 6 months.
